Scope and Contents note

Collection documents the day-to-day and yearly activities of LCC at Cottage Grove. The collection contains records in five series.

Series A, Administrative Records, includes course information, correspondence, and instructional materials. Series B, Project Manuals, documents the construction of a new facility completed in 1997. Series C, Curriculum Records, includes information for instructors, course syllabi, course descriptions, and course information sheets.

Series D, New Facility Records, documents the construction of the new facility constructed in 1996-1997.

The project was funded by the construction bond approved by voters in 1995. The grand opening was held on September 16, 1997. This collection of materials documents the funding, building, and early days of the new facility. It includes information regarding building materials and equipment, floor plans, newspaper articles, and personal documents such as correspondence, notes, memoranda, and agendas. The collection also contains photographs documenting the construction process and finished facility. There are also two sets of blueprints for the new facility. The main architect was gLAS Architectural Group with Balzhiser and Hubbard Engineers and Cameron McCarthy Gilbert Landscape Architects.

Series E, Presentation on Community Education/Schools, consists of a slide presentation created with Southwestern Oregon Community College, sponsored by the Oregon State Department of Education, and produced by Don Strahan and others. The presentation was alternately titled “Community Schools” and “Community Education.”

Administrative History

LCC at Cottage Grove provides credit and enrichment classes to residents in Cottage Grove, Creswell, and other rural communities in southern Lane County. The Central Area Education Center in Cottage Grove was opened and dedicated in 1977; the name was changed to Lane Community College at Cottage Grove in 1990. The program is currently housed in a modern branch campus which opened in September 1997.

LCC at Cottage Grove offers a broad selection of vocational and lower division college courses; continuing education enrichment classes, seminars, and workshops; and pre-college programs including English as a Second Language, Adult Basic Education and GED (High School Equivalency).
