Identifier: M-010

Scope and Contents note

This collection contains items collected by Pete Peterson, journalism instructor and Torch advisor at Lane, 1971-2002.

“Living & Farming at Lane in 1924-25” is an interview with Harold Haskell. In 1924-1925, as a child of six or seven years old, the Rev. Harold Haskell lived on the land that became Lane's main campus. He was interviewed by Dierdre Reynolds in 1976 for a class project. The site of the farm where Harold Haskell lived in 1924-1925 and which he talks about in this interview became the Gonyea home and is currently the site of Oak Hill School. Wilfred Gonyea donated the land on which the college is situated to the Lane Community College District. There are also three photographs of the Russell Creek Basin, March 1976.

Newspapers – The collection contains copies of newspapers from Eugene High School, 1929; the Torch, Lane’s student newspaper, 1965, 1978; Eugene’s Register-Guard, 1942; and a reproduction of Harper’s Weekly from 1883.

Radio drama – Peterson also collected a recording of Orson Wells’ “War of the Worlds” radio drama from 1938.
