The Torch Photographs
Content Description
This collection contains negatives, proof sheets, and prints of photographs taken by the student staff of The Torch, the student newspaper for Lane Community College. Most of the photographs are black and white and document college events and news items that appeared in the newspaper. Typical subjects include sports, art and performing arts such as dance and theater, student events and activities, college staff and students, and classroom activities.
Box 1 – 1974 – 1981; Subjects include Lane Today, Calendar, home economics, mechanics, mass communication, art, performing arts, business, sports, and student services. Box 2 – 1972 – 1986; Subjects include art, sports, performing arts; also arranged by date. Box 3 – 1986 – 1987; Arranged by date. Box 4 – 1987 – 1989; Arranged by date. Box 5-6 – 1979 – 1981; Subjects include logging, staff/college people, rallies, art, sports, theater and performing arts. Box 7 – 1990 – 1992; Arranged by date. Subjects include sports. Box 8 – 1993 – 1998; Arranged by date. Historical Note
The Torch is an independent student-produced newspaper, first published on November 1, 1965, shortly after the school opened for the first time in the Fall 1965. It was a publication of the Associated Students of Lane Community College and currently operates under the auspices of Media Arts as part of the Arts Division and the authority of the college’s Media Commission. The Torch is published weekly on Thursdays during the academic year, September to May.

Records were transferred from The Torch to the college Archives in three accessions in 1995 and 2010.
